The perfect fusion of character with contemporary for federation home

The McCourt Street renovation began with a focus on quality over quantity. Our clients carefully considered the space they needed for their family home, opting not to compromise the integrity of the original 1920’s building design. The century-old red brick in West Leederville acted as an urban oasis, achieved through careful siting, interior views that established a strong connection to the site, and a manicured landscape that crafted pleasure throughout the changing seasons. A deceptively simple space, tucked under a canopy of trees and seamlessly integrated into its surroundings was renovated using volume, structure, light and texture to create efficiency and warmth.

The plan was kept open and the form simple. Restoration of the colonial design traits that defined 1920's federation was paramount. Tuckpointing to the brick exterior, timber fretwork to an endearing verandah and restoring ornate architraves, cornices, ceilings and a working fireplace combined to create an elevation full of history and soul. The kitchen, the nucleus of the house for the owners, was transformed into an airy modern space founded upon a warm base of European oak, textured granite and polished fittings. Sunlight poured inside the home through installation of glass doors and windows, adding to the unique ambiance created by the meticulously restored heritage features. Revived with a mix of past and present, the red brick home was now in sync with its owners.
